From "Architectural Photography: Inside and Out" by Jim Lowe
By balancing the adequate daylight with the interior incandescent lighting I did not lose any of the ambience within the room or any detail in the windows. The blue cast outside the window makes the interior appear warm and inviting. The two detail shots of the staircase were exposed using daylight film showing the room was designed to let in pools of light from the skylights in the roof.
(there are two photographs on this page, and this is from the caption. the images are actually pretty cool, one of a kitchen area and one of a staircase with a living room in the background. the photographer could have cleaned the living room, though. and really, an editor for the text would have been nice, too.)
I tag . . . Amok in toyland, ChasingTheDollar, Cosmological Defenestration, Sean LaFianza, and Steve Betz.
no, i'm not getting married.
and no, it's not my birthday yet.
through christina's blog today, i discovered a new challenge in a similar vein as my project365.
101 Things to do in 1001 Days.
here's the deal. you make a list of 101 things to accomplish, from planting a garden to traveling to australia . . . the only rules are that the task must be quantitative and specific ('being nice' can't really be measured as easily as 'being nice to the mother-in-law on thanksgiving'), and within reach. the goal? to complete the tasks in the time allotted. the length of the challenge allows for tasks requiring advance planning, like visiting australia. (and no, that's not going on my list. yet.)
1001 days works out to be approximately 2.75 years. sounds a lot longer when described in years, huh.
i thought about when would be a good time to start such an intensive project. do i just jump in and make the start / end dates arbitrary, or should i plan it a little more specifically? here's some of the start / end date combinations i thought of.
April 4, 2008 - December 31, 2010 (ending on new year's eve)
July 20, 2008 - April 17, 2011 (ending on my 30th birthday - eeeeek!)
January 4, 2008 - October 1, 2010 (starting today)
April 17, 2008 - January 13, 2011 (starting on my 27th birthday)
in doing all these calculations, i came to the realization that my 30th birthday is exactly 1201 days from today. (well, "today" was January 3rd. it's now past midnight.) that's scary and a half.
i'm leaning towards starting officially on april 4th, to have a good milestone end-date. that also gives me time to make a list. although i'm tempted to make this list on the train tomorrow (today) and start then.
anyone else doing this / planning on doing this in the future? i think it might be fun. and if i can handle project365, i think i can handle this, too.
we'll see. (and of course, i'll be updating it here. what *don't* i update here?)
COULD YOU TAKE IN A
FIGHT?

1. Cigarette: Me? You need to ask me? I don't smoke - I sing!
2. Beverage: Coffee . . . mmmmmmmm, it's still warm.

7. Song listened to: Something quietly rocking out on our XM.
8. Bubble bath: Umm, when I was five?

7. Been drunk: Drunk like everyone else? No, thanks. I've learned those lessons from watching my friends. Drunk for me? Of course!
8. Run away: Does moving to DC count, if you factor in the job searching before ending the bad relationship from which I desperately needed out?
Four Places You've Been To:
1. Masada
3. Tripod Rock in Kinnelon, NJ
Four Favorite Things (In No Order):
1. Watching the snow blow by like I'm in a snow globe.

1. A photographer.
2. Loved.
One Thing That You Regret:
1. Letting myself get lost for so long. I'm actually pretty fantastic! (Or so I've been told on occasion.)
sometimes, i like to revisit memes after a while to see how my results may or may not change. although some of these questions are a little out of my league or arbitrary, going with my gut seems to produce accurate results in comparison with current events. so, today, this card accurately represents where i am now, at the start of Year Two.
--

You are The Lovers
Motive, power, and action, arising from Inspiration and Impulse.
The Lovers represents intuition and inspiration. Very often a choice needs to be made.
Originally, this card was called just LOVE. And that's actually more apt than "Lovers." Love follows in this sequence of growth and maturity. And, coming after the Emperor, who is about control, it is a radical change in perspective. LOVE is a force that makes you choose and decide for reasons you often can't understand; it makes you surrender control to a higher power. And that is what this card is all about. Finding something or someone who is so much a part of yourself, so perfectly attuned to you and you to them, that you cannot, dare not resist. This card indicates that the you have or will come across a person, career, challenge or thing that you will fall in love with. You will know instinctively that you must have this, even if it means diverging from your chosen path. No matter the difficulties, without it you will never be complete.
What Tarot Card are You?
Take the Test to Find Out.
--
why is this card appropriate?
to describe just one way (as there's many possible ways, including my new job, my new house, my friends, etc.), it's how i feel towards Revels.
although i did not get into this year's Christmas chorus, i still feel compelled to be a part of the production in any way i can. i'm volunteering for the wednesday night work parties, in which we'll make all sorts of props, costume pieces, and set pieces. beyond that, i'll also volunteer for backstage work, most likely props and/or costuming.
my theory?
if i can't be IN the show, i might as well help make sure it happens!
our company manager wrote me an amazing note along with the "thanks but" email sent out last night, and it seriously brought me to tears. i could be passionate about being a part of a group all i want, but having someone else express how vital i've become to the group makes every moment given worth everything. (my goodness, i can't stop welling up with tears thinking about this fact.)
i wrote an email back in thanks and expressing my desire to volunteer wherever needed, and at the end, i wrote this perfect analogy (in as best words as i can remember) . . .
"Perhaps I am done "rooting," and now it's time for me to grow some leaves."
so, here's to Year Two: The Year of Changes!
all for the best. :)
if it changes, please put it in the comments below.
i'm not sure if it'll track itself for me.
this movie looks awesome, too.
Your imagination, self-reliance, openness to new things, and appreciation for utility combine to make you an INVENTOR. |
You have the confidence to make your visions into reality, and you are willing to consider many alternatives to get that done. |
The full spectrum of possibilities in the world intrigues you—you're not limited by pre-conceived notions of how things should be. |
Problem-solving is a specialty of yours, owing to your persistence, curiosity, and understanding of how things work. |
Your vision allows you to identify what's missing from a given situation, and your creativity allows you to fill in the gaps. |
Your awareness of how things function gives you the ability to come up with new uses for common objects. |
It is more interesting for you to pursue excitement than it is to get caught up in a routine. |
Although understanding details is not difficult for you, you specialize in seeing the bigger picture and don't get caught up in specifics. |
You tend to more proactive than reactive—you don't just wait for things to come to you. |
You're not one to force your positions on a group, and you tend to be fair in evaluating different options. |
You prefer to have time to plan for things, feeling better with a schedule than with keeping plans up in the air until the last minute. |
You do your own thing when it comes to clothing, guided more by practical concerns than by other people's notions of style. |
If you want to be different:
Try applying your creativity to more artistic arenas, and letting your imagination take less practical forms. |
how you relate to others
You are Benevolent
You are a great person to interact with—understanding, giving, and trusting—in a word, BENEVOLENT |
You don't mind being in social situations, as you feel comfortable enough with people to be yourself. |
Your caring nature goes beyond a basic concern: you take the time to understand the nuances of people's situations before passing any sort of judgment. |
You're a good listener, and even better at offering advice. |
You're concerned with others at both an individual and societal level—you sympathize with the plights of troubled groups, and you can care about people you've never met. |
Considering many different perspectives is something at which you excel, and you appreciate that quality in others. |
Other people's feelings are important to you, and you're good at mediating disputes. |
Because of your understanding and patience, you tend to bring out the best in people. |
You spend a lot of time taking care of others, but don't forget to take care of yourself! |
Sometimes you can get overcommitted, and when you sacrifice spending time with those close to you, it can make them feel unimportant. |
