thanks to the VOX community for the [this is good] recommendation today!

HEROES: season two
can't wait?
enjoy these trailers.
woah, writers-of-heroes!
what a web you've created for us . . . literally!
tonite's episode was so twisty (or should i say un-ravelly) i don't know which end is up anymore! i won't say more for the sake of our west coast and TiVo/DVR friends, but if you all want to start the commentary in the comments below, go right ahead.
westies and TiVo's, consider this your spoiler warning.
yes, it's true.
i was out [on a date] last night, and didn't watch heroes yet.
but will i be watching tonight?
nope! i'll be out at a happy hour at McFreshman's won by our very own MeghanMac.
and who will be joining me?
yep. the guy from my date last night.
:: cue cheesy 'oooooooooooh!!!' ::
needless to say, heroes won't be seen until wednesday.
so please, label spoilers clearly!
today, you're getting a double whammy of TV review goodness. if you haven't seen either HEROES or THE BLACK DONNELLYS, please don't read any further until you have. in other words, i'm writing spoilers, and you can't blame me now that i've warned you! (also, i wrote this in a text-edit program earlier, so you'll have to deal without excessive fun formatting.)
HEROES
just when i thought last week's episode blew us away . . . this one did, literally! who would have thought ted would actually go nuclear and burn down the house. even though there was that little explosion right before claire walked out . . . i don't think he's dead. i think that was just the end of his reaction, and that the tranquilizer worked. but wait. was he strapped to the bed at the factory like Matt? i can't remember now. someone help me remember. i swear, i haven't seen the hatian.
but really. Claire just saved the day. and now daddy has to forget. sadness. i'm not sure what's going to happen to him now. will he forget who he is completely? or just about Claire and the hatian? i really liked the way the writers worked HRG's character through the flashbacks and current events to show that although he had some hard decisions to make, he still loved his family. (and i don't know what you all are talking about with the whole "lost" thing, i never watched it!) oh. and i LOVED the subliminal conversation between him and Claire and Matt telling him to shoot her. i almost giggled.
when i saw that roof, i KNEW it was significant. (the online dohicky asked a question about the roof last week, and i totally thought it was significant beyond Claude's pigeon nest. i didn't follow along this week, sadly.) and they did a great job casting "little hiro" . . . he looked just like Masi Oka! and really, George Takei makes my day. contrary to others' speculations, i really think he's definitely not Linderman . . .
speaking of linderman, did you see the preview for next week!?! the white-haired guy is totally linderman. any ideas on who he really is?
now, here comes the questions and confusions.
what's the relationship between Linderman's agency and Mohinder's dad? all along, i thought that he was the first one to figure out the 'genome' markers . . . but it looks like "the agency" knew for much, much longer! does that discredit dr. suresh's work? how long has "the agency" actually known about these manifesting powers? how did the find out? maybe dr. suresh worked for them without knowing he gave them information?
even better . . . if "the agency's" known about these abilities since at least the early 90's . . . (was that really 15 years ago, my goodness!) . . . who was the first? and why was it taking so long for others to manifest?
i'm interested to see where next week's episode goes, now that we've uncovered all this information about the bennet family. who's next for some deep info?
OH.
and who called it with Simone not being dead?! i bet she can heal, too. that'll be interesting to see.
THE BLACK DONNELLYS
alrighty, ladies. who now has the hots for dark haired irish boys?
me! me!
in all seriousness, i went into this pilot knowing very little about the show. it looked to be good from the previews, but really, it blew me away. even though it takes place in present day, it's TOTALLY the New York City I grew up knowing. forget about gentrification and multi-million-dollar loft spaces. New York City was the grit, the families, the rivals. neighborhoods controlled by small groups of nationalities - the italians, the chinese, the irish, the hispanics, the russian jews . . . neighborhoods set up by immigrants fleeing for their lives and trying to make the best of what they knew in a city that could swallow them whole.
so, in that respect, the situation presented is very, very real. jen said it best, but to paraphrase, these are just a group of kids who, through family loyalty, love, and obligation, got themselves in way over their heads by taking on the Italians. what started out as a potentially resolvable skirmish has turned into a full out war, and i'm rootin' for the underdogs.
a touch i really liked for this pilot: joey ice cream's narration and interaction with the cops. he not only set up the basics of the characters and story for the series, but really put into perspective just how far they've come and how far they've fallen. we're not left wondering what's going to happen in this situation. we already know the italians all end up dead. we're wondering instead what the hell the cop meant by "not those bodies. the others!"
without that line, this pilot could have been spread over two hours and made into a single movie, and still would have been great. instead, we now have a war to deal with.
so, i think this week's heroes makes up for last week.
let's hold off on commentary until it's aired on the west coast.
in the meantime, have any of you done the online during-the-broadcast interactive thingy?
if not, you should try it out next week. it's got fun facts and polls and all sorts of stuff.

tonight! tonight! tonight!
any last-minute guesses on who he could be?
i'm still thinking either nathan or the yet-to-be-seen linderman.
also, anyone get any updates lately on the 360 ARG? i haven't, but i still want to poke around the message boards to see if anyone else has gotten new information.
don't forget to set your DVR / TiVo's if you'll be out!
**warning - heroes 360 spoilers are contained within.**
alrighty! so, who has been trying to keep up with this heroes 360 game? i'm totally addicted to it now.
here's what i've discovered so far [and is now in public domain on the wiki and message boards]:
- primatechpaper.com
- called the phone number 800-PRIMA16 to get the "application code" of MT36 for the online "job application"
- received the following emails (there are others, they're not all the same for each applicant - these are the ones i got)
- email #1: 1/29/07 12:58pm "Important Message from Primatech Paper": Thank you for your interest in Primatech Paper. We will be in contact once we evaluate your application.
- email #2: 1/30/07 5:05am "more than paper... much more":

- user: bennet pass: claire
- case file 3001 is for Hana, aka 'wireless.' i believe she's a character from the online graphic novels, which i haven't read yet.
- user: bennet pass: HGghx11a
- case file 3004 is for Syler. apparently was updated almost instantly during the broadcast to show him as 'missing.'
- user: bennet pass: GGeh81zu (try U if lowercase doesn't work.)
- saw somewhere something about "primatech.com," but i think it was a mistake. poor company - their server's going to overload, most definitely.
i'll be updating this list of information as i come across it, either on my own discovery or through other means. to read about everyone's experiences with this game, be sure to visit the message boards, as some of the most diligent work has been reported there. (be prepared though, the thread is loooooong!)
anyone else have any 360 experiences going on that are different than mine? also - do you know if there is any way to add text messaging back on? i opted out originally, but it seems like some information is being sent wirelessly only. so anyone getting texts, please post them, too!
in preparation for tonight's airing, here's a question for you all.
go to www.primatechpaper.com.
click on the "jobs" section.
anyone figure out the code yet? i'm SURE there will be something hidden in there somewhere . . . i've already tried the following obvious ones:
- claire
- syler
- heroes
- prima16 (from the phone number)
- linderman
- thelist
- cheerleader
- bennett
- petrelli
- abilities
- primatech
- nbc
- 46622
- paper
maybe if we work together, we can figure it out!
post your attempts as comments below.
in the meantime, i'm going to continue trying.
just a quick thought . . .
how can the networks possibly do this to us:
heroes: monday, 9pm
24: monday, 9pm.
they're lucky most of us have DVR or TiVo, because really, i think there would be a RIOT on their hands.
