vox people, if you're reading this, i wouldn't be contemplating this move to a different platform if you allowed outsiders to comment. every other blogging site (or at least the ones i know about) has awesome ways to catch spam comments, if that's what you're worried about. i'm sure you can find one, too!
at first, the community of vox felt like a giant world open in front of me. now, it feels like an invisible fence.
i knew something was fishy.
mercury retrograde since May 27th, lasting until direct station on June 19th. then finally, July 4th, everything will be back to normal.
please, lords of Kobol [sorry, been watching too much Battlestar Galactica lately], don't let me do anything stupid during this retrograde, as i've done time after time. it's messing with my head, and work, and well ... everything - BIG time.

]]>somehow, my TV ended up tuned to FOX last night when i turned it on, and i caught the last two performances and the recaps for the night on American Idol. i haven't watched all season, i haven't even really paid attention to it in the news or on blogs or the radio, or anywhere.
so, who are these 'david' guys, and what's the story on them?
i think the blond/red-ish guy should win, because he not only sang his songs fantastically, heplayed guitar on all of his songs, he plays it left-handed, which in this right-hand dominated world is a feat unto itself. he's much more marketable and seems like he could be a viable act outside the Idol craze.
the dark haired guy - or should i say boy - looked to be about 15 and a wuss. however, i do admit, he sang beautifully. i could see him do well on broadway, or on the multitude of American Idol tour/reunion/likely catfights that traipse around the country.
either way, at the announcement of "and here's ruben studdard!," i honestly thought, "who?" i forgot, he won this years ago. does he have a career?

perhaps this shows my disconnect with the pop-culture of today. not that i was ever really connected to pop-culture at any age - i cannot name a New Kid on the Block, let alone sing one of their songs, nor have i seen more than one episode of Sex in the City.
but then again, blogging could now be considered pop-culture, and i've been doing that since '99, since before there was a term [or a company] called 'blogger.'
does that make me a revolutionary instead?
just wanted to share . . . one of my snarky comments made it into 'comments of the week' on DCist today.
and yes, i'm aware that i'm 27 and i listed 25 on there. i've had allergies now for almost two years. ugh [sniffle].

]]>aaron's submarine was selected to participate in Fleet Week in Ft. Lauderdale this week, a much needed few days of liberty and sunshine. (i'm always so excited to hear he's getting sunshine.) today, he spent a few hours with his grandparents, a wonderful surprise for both him and them. (his grandmother called me later in the evening to tell me all about it. and yes - i then called *my* grandma, just to say hi.)

quick note to let you know i'm still breathing. well, kinda.
i went home for passover this past weekend and brought home my very own influenza virus! aren't you proud? i've been battling it and it's ever-present fever since sunday night. today, i got a ride from Meghan to see the doctor.
he says that my flu virus invited his friends sinus infection and bronchitis along for the party.
needless to say, my list of pills to take is longer than the list of things i've eaten since sunday. [thank goodness, so far all the sickness has stayed generally away from my stomach . . . we'll see what the medicines do.] i've got no interest really in food, probably because i've spent the last three days in my bed or on the couch. who needs food when you're not moving? the sad part is that i had just started to really feel healthy and had a desire to up my physical activity in the form of yoga. doc says i'm going to be very tired for the next few weeks. looks like my cardio workout is going to remain the walk from the couch to the kitchen for a while. the really sad part is that it's true. moving around has become a burden, so i'm keeping it to a minimum.
the best part, though?
i got to marathon episodes of Firefly on DVD, and holycrap, it's such a great show. i'm so sad it's over. well, Serenity [the movie] should follow next, but i don't have my hands on that yet. yet.
tomorrow, we start Battlestar Galactica. thank goodness i have these shows on DVD, or i'd be subject to terrible daytime TV and really, that's enough to make me feel worse.
i'm home from work on doctor's orders for tomorrow and friday [have been home since monday]. i'm hoping to gain some interest in reading and writing, i figure it'd be a good time to catch up with everyone's blogs. not sure why i've had no interest, but i think it may just take too much energy.
anyone have any chicken soup [matzo balls optional] to spare?
i just ran out.
ps. aaron called yesterday - he was home for maybe 24 hours. if i had been at work, i wouldn't have been able to talk to him as much. we got three good calls in before he had to leave. only three more weeks . . . .

whether or not my brain is here is another story. i'm off to bed, finally, but i thought i'd leave you with a quick view into what's gone from idea to reality in three short days. (this does not include the massive pile of boxes and bags down in the living room. i'm going to enjoy the un-cluttered feeling of just moving for one night. then i'll try to fit everything back where it belongs. also, i'm not sure this is color balanced correctly. i'll post the better photos tomorrow - or soon.)
