a light in the darkness

IN MEMORIAM

(borrowed from the vt.edu website's homepage. visit it. it's beautiful.)
everywhere you turn today, there's more information than we can handle in regards to the Virginia Tech shootings. the entire nation is fixated on this horrible tradgedy, and is coming together to offer support for the victims and families.
the feeling is incredible.
melancholy, but incredible.
if only happy occasions could bring us together like this instead of death and destruction.
without the aid of reporters, photographers, police, and brave students armed with cell phone cameras and networked computers, we would have been in the dark about this traumatic event at my state's largest university. granted, it's as far away from here as my parents are to me now, but still. although these victims may never get the justice they fully warrant, the attention, memorials, and heartfelt prayers from everyone in the country (and i'm sure the world, too) should amount to even just the littlest bit of :: hug :: for the greiving.
images of police carrying injured students have graced the screens and newspapers all across the world, bringing the sad reality to the situation. everyone, please read this article about Alan Kim, a freelancer for the Roanoake Times, who risked his life in order to report on this event, and who brought a sobering truth to light. you've all seen his images larger than life in the last 24 hours, but because of his work, seen below, the entire world mourns and honors these fallen students, professors, and staff.

gone, but never forgotten.
