just wanted to share . . . one of my snarky comments made it into 'comments of the week' on DCist today.
and yes, i'm aware that i'm 27 and i listed 25 on there. i've had allergies now for almost two years. ugh [sniffle].

The cry of the allergically-damned, by erincarly:
i love trees. really, i do. new baby trees make me happy. old, tall trees warm my heart. when i see newly cleared sections of land for [ugh] more mcmansions, i just want to find the developer and shake some sense into them. (and then laugh when all their soil gets washed away and their grass dies from lack of shade.)
but trees, can't you love me too? why do you have to go and give me allergies after 25 blissful allergy-free years?
/sigh
aaron's submarine was selected to participate in Fleet Week in Ft. Lauderdale this week, a much needed few days of liberty and sunshine. (i'm always so excited to hear he's getting sunshine.) today, he spent a few hours with his grandparents, a wonderful surprise for both him and them. (his grandmother called me later in the evening to tell me all about it. and yes - i then called *my* grandma, just to say hi.)
hi all.
quick note to let you know i'm still breathing. well, kinda.
i went home for passover this past weekend and brought home my very own influenza virus! aren't you proud? i've been battling it and it's ever-present fever since sunday night. today, i got a ride from Meghan to see the doctor.
he says that my flu virus invited his friends sinus infection and bronchitis along for the party.
needless to say, my list of pills to take is longer than the list of things i've eaten since sunday. [thank goodness, so far all the sickness has stayed generally away from my stomach . . . we'll see what the medicines do.] i've got no interest really in food, probably because i've spent the last three days in my bed or on the couch. who needs food when you're not moving? the sad part is that i had just started to really feel healthy and had a desire to up my physical activity in the form of yoga. doc says i'm going to be very tired for the next few weeks. looks like my cardio workout is going to remain the walk from the couch to the kitchen for a while. the really sad part is that it's true. moving around has become a burden, so i'm keeping it to a minimum.
the best part, though?
i got to marathon episodes of Firefly on DVD, and holycrap, it's such a great show. i'm so sad it's over. well, Serenity [the movie] should follow next, but i don't have my hands on that yet. yet.
tomorrow, we start Battlestar Galactica. thank goodness i have these shows on DVD, or i'd be subject to terrible daytime TV and really, that's enough to make me feel worse.
i'm home from work on doctor's orders for tomorrow and friday [have been home since monday]. i'm hoping to gain some interest in reading and writing, i figure it'd be a good time to catch up with everyone's blogs. not sure why i've had no interest, but i think it may just take too much energy.
anyone have any chicken soup [matzo balls optional] to spare?
i just ran out.
ps. aaron called yesterday - he was home for maybe 24 hours. if i had been at work, i wouldn't have been able to talk to him as much. we got three good calls in before he had to leave. only three more weeks . . . .
here, being my new room.
whether or not my brain is here is another story. i'm off to bed, finally, but i thought i'd leave you with a quick view into what's gone from idea to reality in three short days. (this does not include the massive pile of boxes and bags down in the living room. i'm going to enjoy the un-cluttered feeling of just moving for one night. then i'll try to fit everything back where it belongs. also, i'm not sure this is color balanced correctly. i'll post the better photos tomorrow - or soon.)
What's the best April Fools' Day prank you've ever had pulled on you?

I don't ask for a luxurious life,
the world's gold or its fine pearls,
I ask for a happy heart,
an honest heart, a pure heart.
- A pure heart full of goodness,
- It is more beautiful than the lovely lily,
- None but a pure heart can sing,
- Sing in the day, sing in the night.
It would swiftly go to seed;
The riches of a virtuous, pure heart
Will bear eternal profit.
- (Chorus)
Rising to heaven on the wing of song
To God, for the sake of my Saviour,
Give me a pure heart.
- (Chorus)

you have all heard me mention my fantastic choir, the 18th street singers, in previous posts.
now, you get to hear us - in concert!
these recordings are from our concert on February 18, at the strathmore music center's open house. one of our member's friends made these recordings . . . from the third tier, all the way in the back of the house. (it was an open house, so there's a bit of crowd noise.) i didn't quite believe the comment made by the lady who booked us (a retired Grammy-award winning choral conductor), but after hearing these recordings, i believe her fully - that concert hall was made for us.
and for those of you who may know of him, "With a Lily" and "Water Night" are by our favorite contemporary composer, Eric Whitacre. the only thing better than singing at this concert was finding out afterwards that Eric himself emailed us (well, our director) about singing Water Night, and how he would love to come meet our group when he's in town in the spring. ::swooooooon::
so, sit down, turn up the speakers, and enjoy!
(and if you're in the DC area, you should plan to come to our spring concert! dates are being worked out now, but should be sometime in June.)
